The wave of the plague pogrom

The wave of Jewish persecutions, which spread with the plague from Southern Europe northwards and westwards, reached Erfurt in March 1349. To protect his belongings, the Erfurt merchant Kalman von Wiehe buried them under a staircase near the Old Synagogue. He died on March 21, 1349.
